Wat is 'nanotechnologie'?


Nanotechnologie is een containerbegrip, en haar toepassing omvat diverse vakgebieden. Hier volgen enkele voorbeelden:

Door nanotechnologie toe te passen op waterfilters kan op een efficiëntere wijze beter en sneller water worden gefilterd - water is het goud van de toekomst!

Door nanotechnologie toe te passen op computerhardware zal de opslagcapaciteit binnen onafzienbare tijd almaar groter worden - opslagcapaciteit is de sleutel tot digitale toepassingen in de toekomst!

Door nanotechnologie toe te passen op de fabricage van ultralicht metaal kan het gewicht van vliegtuigen met 10% verminderd worden, waardoor minder brandstof nodig is om meer mensen en goederen te vervoeren!

Door nanotechnologie toe te passen op de fabricage van batterijen zal de capaciteit drastisch toenemen, wat zal leiden tot nooit eerder vertoonde mobiele toepassingen en een significant beter milieu - het milieu is dé voorwaarde voor de toekomst!

Tim Harper is the founder & CEO of CMP Cientifica, and the Co Author of the Nanotechnology Opportunity Report®.

Tim is also the Executive Director of European NanoBusiness Association and an advisor to the US NanoBusiness Alliance. He also contributes a weekly column to the Institute of Physics Nanotechweb site.

Tim also publishes the weekly nanotechnology newsletter TNT Weekly which has been running since 2000, and is joint editor in chief of the X Report.

He chairs EuroFE, a European organisation dedicated to commercialising field emission technologies, and is an expert advisor to the European Commission.

Tim founded CMP Cientifica in 1997, which organises Europe's largest scientific nanotechnology conference, TNT 200x. The company also manages both the Phantoms network, which coordinates European nanoelectronics research, and the NanoSpain network which links the Spanish scientific nanotechnology community.

Before founding CMP Cientifica, Tim was an engineer at the European Space Agency's research and development centre in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. He managed the micro and nanoscale characterisation facility, and has published extensively on analytical techniques and characterization of advanced materials.

Tim lives in Madrid, Spain, with his family, after working in the UK, US, Germany, and the Netherlands. Originally from the UK, he also speaks French, Spanish, and Dutch.

Monique Schoondorp (1963) is co-founder of the Biomade Technology institute in Groningen, the first institute in The Netherlands dedicated to the development of molecular nanotechnology. At this moment she is working as Director Funding Acquisitions for Biomade Technology, has started her own company Nonagon knowledge transfer and is partner of the consultancy group Innovation Power. She has been trained as a polymer chemist and after her PhD she developed management skills and extended her scientific experience in the direction of bio-molecular sciences.

Jan Willem van der Kamp

After graduation in chemistry at Utrecht University (1970) Jan Willem van der Kamp joined Unilever where he had positions in central research and the van denBergh Foods company. In 1985 became director of the Cereal and Animal Nutrition Research Institute in TNO. Since 1994 he is Program Director Biotechnology in TNO Nutrition and Food Research.

His external positions include President of ICC (International Society for Cereal Science and Technology), Chairman of the Law and Regulation Committee of NIABA, the Dutch Bioindustry Association.
His main hobby is playing the violin, both classic and popular music.
