Borland sluit als eerste licentie-overeenkomst voor de Microsoft .NET Framework Software Development Kit

29 januari 2003 - Borland Software Corporation maakt bekend dat het als eerste een licentie-overeenkomst heeft gesloten voor de distributie van de Microsoft .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK). Dit zal helpen de ontwikkellevenscyclus van .NET-applicaties te versnellen. De licentie-overeenkomst onderstreept Borland s streven naar het aanbieden van snelle, flexibele .NET Connected-oplossingen.
"Borland is het eerste bedrijf dat het .NET Framework in licentie neemt - een belangrijke mijlpaal voor klanten," zei Eric Rudder, senior vice president van de developer & platform evangelism divisie bij Microsoft Corp. "Dit is één van de uitgebreide reeks initiatieven om ervoor te zorgen dat bedrijven van ieder formaat kunnen profiteren van de voordelen en capaciteiten van .NET-technologieën. Het .NET Framework biedt bedrijven de mogelijkheid om concurrerende, innovatieve oplossingen te ontwikkelen."
Met de licentie-overeenkomst wil Borland later dit jaar een nieuwe ontwikkeloplossing voor Microsoft .NET introduceren. Deze nieuwe oplossing zal de meer dan drie miljoen Borland-ontwikkelaars de mogelijkheid bieden om snel en eenvoudig software-applicaties op het .NET Framework te bouwen en in te zetten.
"Als het eerste bedrijf dat de .NET Framework SDK in licentie neemt, breiden we ons aanbod van enterprise-oplossingen voor het versnellen van de softwareontwikkeling voor alle belangrijke platformen uit," zei Frank Slootman, senior vice president en general manager software producten bij Borland. "Wij streven ernaar de beste onafhankelijke, .NET Connected-ontwikkeloplossing te leveren die onze klanten zal helpen de ontwikkelcyclus te verkorten."
"Wanneer het gebruik van .NET toeneemt, zullen bedrijven om unieke .NET oplossingen vragen waarbij gebruik gemaakt kan worden van bestaande vaardigheden, investeringen en middelen," zei Mark Driver van Gartner. "Een onafhankelijke ontwikkeloplossing is een aantrekkelijk alternatief voor ontwikkelaars die gebruik willen maken van het .NET Framework en tegelijkertijd een best-of-breed benadering tegenover aanbieders willen handhaven."
