De Toekomst van de Globaliserende Economie
Woensdag 29 januari behandelt The Club of Amsterdam wederom een ontwikkeling die een grote invloed op de toekomst zal hebben. Het thema is 'De toekomst van de Globaliserende Economie - globalisering, duurzame ontwikkeling in de 21ste eeuw'.
Op 31 augustus 2002 werden tijdens the World Summit in Johannesburg de GRI-richtlijnen bekend gemaakt. GRI staat voor Global Reporting Initiative, dat als doelstelling heeft het komen tot gemeenschappelijke standaardrichtlijnen voor verslaglegging waarin rekening wordt gehouden met duurzaamheidaspecten. Dit houdt in dat er in een jaarverslag niet alleen gekeken wordt naar economische dimensies van de organisatie, maar ook naar de sociale dimensie en de dimensie van het milieu van de activiteiten, producten en diensten.
Voormalig Minister van Economische Zaken, Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink, zal aan het begin van de bijeenkomst een overzicht geven over hoe westerse landen om kunnen en moeten gaan met een duurzame economie in een globaliserende omgeving. Wat zijn de risico's en de kansen? Welke rol moeten WTO, the EU en andere internationale organisaties spelen?
The Club of Amsterdam zal deze avond bespreken wat de invloed zal zijn van de GRI-richtlijnen. Zal men in de toekomst in staat zijn om bepaalde schandalen met behulp van deze richtlijnen te voorkomen? Zal in de toekomst de kloof tussen milieu en economie kleiner worden? Hoe ziet onze economie er over vijftig jaar uit, wanneer deze richtlijnen volledig ingevoerd zullen zijn?
Paul Hohnen van GRI zal samen met Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink de degens kruisen met J.P. Thomas Thijssen (Managing Director Hamilton International) en Mark de Beer (Deputy Director Amsterdam Foreign Investment Office) inzake hete hangijzers omtrent de kansen en bedreigingen van de almaar globaliserende wereld...

Biographies
Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink, former Dutch Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Affairs
Mrs. Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink was born on June 1, 1950 in Hengelo, in the Province of Gelderland.
After graduating from the Upper Secondary School for Girls ("MMS") in 1967, she trained at the School for Tourism in Breda, where she obtained her certificate in 1969. She subsequently worked at a travel agency and in an export management firm. Later she studied French.
Mrs. Jorritsma-Lebbink was a member of the Municipal Council of Bolsward (in the Province of Friesland) between 1978 and 1989 and served as an MP from 1982 to 1994 on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party (VVD). During the latter period she acted as parliamentary party spokesperson on transport and water management-related issues.
Mrs. Jorritsma-Lebbink has also held the posts of Secretary of the Liberal Democrats' Provincial Women's Association and Deputy Member of the Advisory Council of Liberal Democratic Women. She was member of the home-ownership committee of the Housing Experiments Steering Group. Mrs. Jorritsma-Lebbink held a seat on the Board of Management of The Hague-based "Nieuwspoort" International Press Centre and held memberships of "Berie foar it Frysk" (the Provincial Council for the Promotion for the Frisian Language), the Board of Trustees of the Thorbecke Academy and the Board of the Highrise Building Foundation.
On August 22, 1994 Mrs. Jorritsma-Lebbink was appointed Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Wim Kok.
On August 3, 1998 she was appointed Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Wim Kok.
On July 22, 2002 she returned to Parliament.
Paul Hohnen
Vice-President, Strategic Development, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
An Australian national, since 1975 Paul Hohnen has worked intensively in the field of multilateral relations as a diplomat, international civil servant, director of Greenpeace International and an independent consultant. On 1 September 2002, he was appointed the Global Reporting Initiative's Vice-President for Strategic Development, based at its new Amsterdam headquarters. Frequently invited to act as a conference facilitator, including as the first-ever external facilitator of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development's multi-stakeholder dialogue segment, Hohnen has been a keynote speaker and panelist at a variety of high-level forums. These have included the 2002 IUCN World Summit Business Briefings, the 2001 and 2002 OECD Forums, the 2001 Nokia Environmental Forum, the Global Panel, the European Investment Bank Forum and the Prince of Wales Business and Environment Seminar. He has also been invited to address a range of private CEO level corporate gatherings.
Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) was established in late 1997 with the mission of developing globally applicable guidelines for reporting on the economic, environmental, and social performance, initially for corporations and eventually for any business, governmental, or non-governmental organisation (NGO). Convened by the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the GRI incorporates the active participation of corporations, NGOs, accountancy organisations, business associations, and other stakeholders from around the world.

J.P.Thomas Thijssen, EMIM, Managing Director of Hamilton International
Thomas Thijssen is Managing Director of Hamilton International. A company focused on supporting Business and Governments in process of innovation, learning and entrepreneurship.
EMIM stands for Executive Master in Information Management, a Master degree from the University of Amsterdam. Thijssen also holds a degree in Marketing.
The first 25 years of his career Thijssen fulfilled all relevant positions in the international hospitality industry, working in Australia, England, United States and the Netherlands. For Holiday Inns he was a Food & Beverage Manager and General Manager. In the Netherlands Thijssen was Commercial Director on group level for Postiljon Hotels (currently Mercure).
Since 1998 as Managing Director of Hamilton International, Thijssen worked in the fields of international tourism & hospitality, the health sector and in the field of education. His focus is entrepreneurship and innovation.
He is an author of 3 books and a series of articles on innovation, demand driven design and education and other topics concerning entrepreneurship. As a speaker he was invited at several conferences in places like Hong Kong, Los Angeles (US), Nice (France), Guadalajara (Mexico), Bergen (Norway), Trinidad & Tobago (West Indies) and Seoul (South Korea).
His main aim is to help people grow and to create value, both for themselves, their closest relations and the business they work for.
Mark de Beer
Mark de Beer (1964) is currently deputy director of the Amsterdam Foreign Investment Office. Before joining the municipality of Amsterdam, he has worked in the private sector, primarily in the feld of direct marketing, as commercial director and subsequently as executive director.
