Onderzoek Borland: webservices nu zaak van top-level management

~ webservicestechnologie meestal ingezet voor betere klantenservice ~

4 februari 2003 - Borland Software Corporation maakt bekend dat top-level management steeds meer kennis heeft van webservices. Bovendien groeit op dit niveau in de organisatie ook het besef van de commerciële voordelen die webservices te bieden hebben.

Dit blijkt uit een onderzoek gehouden onder Europese ontwikkelaars en IT-managers die deelnamen aan Borland's jaarlijkse BorCon Europe 2002 conferentie in Londen. Bijna een kwart (23%) van de ondervraagden gaf aan dat het management, en niet de technici binnen de onderneming, verantwoordelijk zijn geweest voor het opstarten van een webservicesproject binnen de organisatie.

Bijna de helft van de ondervraagden (47%) gaf aan dat het webservicesproject voornamelijk gericht was op het verbeteren van de klantenservice. Andere doelstellingen waren onder andere het stroomlijnen van de supply chain en het creëren van nieuwe diensten waarmee inkomsten kunnen worden gegenereerd.

"Het onderzoek toont aan dat ook in de hoogste rangen van organisaties steeds vaker wordt ingezien dat webservices een zeer belangrijk instrument zijn bij het zaken doen," zei Mika Alapiessa, regionaal directeur bij Borland. "De kanttekening die altijd bij deze technologie wordt geplaatst, is dat er te weinig praktijkvoorbeelden zijn. Zoals veel CEO's en managers nu echter inzien, laten lopende projecten al een aanzienlijke 'return on investment' zien."

"Het mooie van webservices is dat het nieuwe en bestaande systemen kan integreren. Door de supply chain te stroomlijnen, helpt webservicestechnologie bedrijven de kosten omlaag te brengen. De vele webservicesprojecten die weldra van start gaan, zullen nog duidelijker maken dat webservices werken en al een realiteit zijn in de zakenwereld," voegde hij hieraan toe.
