Steunbetuiging aan Servische liberale partijen

19-03-2003 - D66 stuurde een steunbetuiging aan de Servische liberale
partijen naar aanleiding van de moord op Zoran Djindjic, de minister
president (prime minister) van de Servische Republiek en de huidige
politieke situatie.
Op 12 maart 2003 werd Zoran Djindjic, de minister president (prime
minister)
van de Servische Republiek, vermoord. Hij stond aan het hoofd van de
Servische regering die bestaat uit een coalitie van 18 politieke
partijen
die zichzelf de Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) noemen. Zoran
Djindjic
was lid van de Democratic Party, en hij was verantwoordelijk voor het
naar
Den Haag sturen van Slobodan Milosevic.
D66 werkt via IDI (stichting Internationaal Democratisch Initiatief)
samen
met de jongerenafdelingen van twee liberale partijen in Servie: de
Liberals
of Serbia (voorheen New Democracy) en Civic (Youth) Alliance. Hierbij
gaat
het om het ondersteunen van het democratiseringsproces in de regio,
door de
partijen te ondersteunen met trainingen en dergelijke. Onderstaande
brief is naar deze twee partijen gestuurd, als steunbetuiging in deze
roerige tijden.

Dear Liberals of Serbia,
On March the 12th, 2003, we received the sad news about the
assassination of Mr. Zoran Djindjic, Prime Minister of the Republic of
Serbia. The news shocked us deeply, not in the least because it can be
considered an act of crime against democracy in Serbia. We would like
to thank you for sending information about the current situation in
Serbia and the efforts that are undertaken to preserve democracy,
human rights and civil liberties.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our compassion with
you, and we hope to be able to continue our joint efforts to improve
democracy in your country.
We will strive to use our political authority and influence to assist
and support the liberal movements in Serbia in this difficult
situation.
