Naar het essay van de Duits/Amerikaanse filosofe Hannah Ahrendt, wier
wijsgerige reflecties op democratie, totalitarisme en de banaliteit
van het kwaad weer volop in de belangstelling staat. Een kritische
analyse van de hedendaags globale politiek. V. Vasterling: The thing
that is probably most striking for a first-time reader of Arendt is
that she rejects the most common attitude with respect to lies in
politics, i.e. moral indignation and denunciation. In view of the fact
that sentimental, disingenuous, and ideological moralizing has come to
replace political discussion in a lot of Western states, including my
home country, the Netherlands, I find Arendts insistence on keeping
morals separate from politics quite refreshing. Veronica Vasterling is
universitair hoofddocent aan de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen. Zij
promoveerde op de studie Waarheid en tijd bij Heidegger (1993) en
verricht onderzoek op het terrein van de postmoderne hermeneutiek. Ze
publiceert regelmatig over contemporaine filosofie en de
gender/feministische theorie.
