Europese kennisuitwisseling forten

Hierbij kondig ik een internationale workshop "Forten" aan, georganiseerd door het Nationaal Project Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (NHW).
Op woensdag 13 en donderdag 14 juni a.s. wordt in het kader van het project ASCEND een internationale conferentie georganiseerd over financiële items rond het beheer van forten. Het doel van dit internationale congres is om kennis uit te wisselen op het gebied van fortenbeheer- en ontwikkeling, financiën en eigendomsverhoudingen tussen publieke en private partijen. Het congres wordt breed bezocht door 12 verschillende landen met zowel forteneigenaren, fortenbeheerders, provincies als gemeenten. De deelnemers komen uit Malta, Griekenland, Italië, Spanje, Polen, Litouwen, België, Frankrijk, Engeland, Zweden, Denemarken en Duitsland (in de bijlage vindt u de complete deelnemerslijst). Ook een onderdeel van het congres is om tot nieuwe samenwerkingsprojecten te komen binnen de nieuwe EU-programma's.
Sinds 2004 is het Projectbureau Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie al gestart met het Interreg IIIC Project "ASCEND" in het kader van internationale samenwerking. Partners van het Projectbureau NHW in dit project zijn: Medwey (GB), Rostock (DUI), La Rochelle (FR), Venetië (IT), Cartagena (SP), Karlskrona (ZWE) en Salonicco (GR). Doel van dit project is om een Internationaal Netwerk van verdedigingssystemen op te bouwen en om de uitwisseling van ervaringen en ideeën tussen de Europese landen te vergemakkelijken.
Op donderdag 14 juni om 13.00 uur op Fort Nieuwe Steeg is er voor de pers gelegenheid voor het stellen van vragen over dit internationaal congres aan het Projectbureau Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie en enkele buitenlandse afgevaardigden. Het totale programma voor het congres vindt u in de bijlage.

Het adres van Fort Nieuwe Steeg is: Nieuwe Steeg 74, 4171 KG Herwijnen. Het fort ligt vlakbij de Linge en het plaatsje Asperen in het westelijke deel van de Betuwe en het Rivierenland. In de bijlage vindt u een routebeschrijving.
Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie
De Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie is een verdedigingslinie aangelegd tussen 1815 en 1940 en loopt van Muiden tot aan de Biesbosch. De Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie
bestaat uit 46 forten en vijf vestingsteden en wordt verbonden door in totaal 1000 elementen (o.a. vele kazematten, sluizen en groepsschuilplaatsen). Tijdens de mobilisatie van 1939-1940 werd de Waterlinie voor het laatst in stelling gebracht en heeft het daarna zijn militaire functie verloren. In 1999 werd de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie aangewezen als Nationaal Project in de Nota Belvedere; een nota die gaat over de relatie tussen cultuurhistorie en ruimtelijke inrichting en ondertekend is door de ministeries LNV, VROM, OCW en V&W. In de afgelopen drie jaar is door ministeries, provincies, gemeenten, waterschappen en maatschappelijke organisaties intensief gewerkt aan de totstandkoming van een ruimtelijke visie op de toekomst voor de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. In het Linieperspectief Panorama Krayenhoff én het uitvoeringsprogramma is deze visie met concrete projecten voor het hele gebied beschreven. Het Nationaal Project stelt zich ten doel de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie als onderdeel van het Nederlands cultureel en landschappelijk erfgoed tot een herkenbare ruimtelijke eenheid te maken en deze duurzaam in stand te houden. Hiertoe zullen eigentijdse functies (zoals recreatie, waterbeheer, landbouw, natuur, verkeer en vervoer) aan de Linie worden toegevoegd, met als uitgangspunt behoud door ontwikkeling.

Bereikbaarheid met auto
Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg is zeer centraal gelegen in Nederland en vanuit praktisch alle grote steden doorgaans binnen een uur te bereiken met de auto. Vanaf de A15 afslag 29 is via de N848 Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg goed bereikbaar.
Bereikbaarheid met openbaar vervoer
In Leerdam (5 km van Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg) is een station waar 2 keer per uur een trein uit de richting Dordrecht en Geldermalsen komt. Leerdam is vanaf Utrecht ook met een geregelde busdienst bereikbaar. Er is geen treintaxi of OV fiets vanaf station Leerdam. Wel kunnen er pendelbusjes of taxi's worden ingezet.
Parkeren
Op het terrein van Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg kunnen ca. 90 auto's geparkeerd worden.
