Op 18 november vindt in het Grand Casino Brussel de tweede editie plaats van Poker For Charity. De feitelijke vereniging Poker for Charity, die bijna twee jaar bestaat, wil hiermee de positieve kant van het pokerspel belichten door het ondersteunen van goede doelen. Poker is de laatste tijd een heet hangijzer. Mensen zijn duidelijk gefascineerd door dit spel, dat je op 5 minuten kan leren, maar waar je een leven lang kan in specialiseren. De explosieve verkoop van pokersets in supermarkten en speciaalzaken is hier getuige van. In de media worden echter voornamelijk de gevaren zoals gokgedrag bij minderjarigen en misdrijven bij illegale spelen voor geld belicht. De intellectuele uitdaging achter het spel, de gemeenschappen van spelers en grote internationale toernooien halen zelden het nieuws, terwijl vele mensen wel met interesse de buitenlandse reportages en TV programma's hierover volgen.
Tijdens Poker For Charity spelen 11 teams van over heel België tegen elkaar ten behoeve van de 11 verschillende goede doelen, Sensoa, Moeders voor Moeders, Streekfonds een hart voor Limburg, Veeweyde, Dreamcatcher, Offrez-moi la lune, Scale Dogs, Down Syndroom Vlaanderen, FOS Socialistische Solidariteit, Ganspoel en Similes. Spelers konden zich gedurende de laatste 6 maanden volledig gratis kwalificeren voor een plaats in een van deze teams.
Bijdragen voor de goede doelen worden verzameld door middel van sponsoring van ondermeer Globalserve.be, PokerBrothers.be, Play The Game, National Paintball Games en JPR Indoor Karting. Daarnaast lopen er ook alternatieve acties zoals veilingen via
http://veiling.poker4charity.be, waar onder andere een paintball sessie met de Fixkes, karting met standup comedian Youssef El Mousaoui, een recept van Jeroen Meus en een unieke poker cartoon van cartoonist Bart Vantieghem onder de hamer gaan.
De finale wordt op 18 november afgesloten met een slotshow (vanaf 19u) die zal worden opgeluisterd door comedians Bert Gabriëls, Youssef, Jerry Vandyck, Sven Hardies, Latif en Marcel De Wit. Toegang tot de finale en de slotshow is gratis, maar enkel voor personen vanaf 21. Grand Casino Brussel, partner van Poker For Charity, volgt enthousiast de opkomst van poker en biedt zeer binnenkort ook pokerspelen aan.

However, media generally underlign the possible dangers such as gambling behaviour from minors and crime connected to illegal cash games. The intellectual challenge behind the game, the communities of players and large international tournaments seldom make it to the news, while countless people closely follow foreign documentaries and TV shows about poker.
During this large scale tournament, 11 teams face off against eachother for the sake of charities like Sensoa, Moeders voor Moeders, Ganspoel, Streekfonds een hart voor Limburg, Veeweyde, Dreamcatcher, Offrez-moi la lune, Scale Dogs, Ganspoel, Down Syndroom Vlaanderen, FOS Socialistische Solidariteit and Similes. For the last 6 months, players could participate for a spot in one of the teams.
Contributions for the charities are being gathered through sponsorships from Globalserve.be, Pokerbrothers.be, Play The Game, National Paintball Games and JPR Indoor Karting. The prize ceremony after the tournament features standup comedians Bert Gabriëls, Youssef El Mousaoui, Jerry Vandyck, Sven Hardies, Latif and Marcel De Wit. Access to the tournament and ceremony is free, but restricted to people aged at least 21. Grand Casino Brussels, partner of Poker For Charity, observes poker with enthousiasm and will be offering poker games very soon.
