Mr. McCurry is best known for his photograph "Afghan Girl". The image was named as the most recognized photograph in the history of National Geographic magazine. The identity of the Afghan Girl remained unknown for over 15 years until Steve McCurry and a National Geographic television crew returned to the region and found the woman, whom they discovered is called Sharbat Gula.
