- Sylvie Fleury's Work of Art to be Presented on 5 June on the Karlsplatz in Vienna

The winner of the UEFA EURO 2008(TM) won't be clear until 29 June in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium. Yet whichever side earns the right to call themselves champions at that finale will take more than just lasting memories back to their country with them: they'll also receive a trophy from the Federal Republic of Austria designed by Sylvie Fleury in conjunction with famous glass-maker Swarovski. The "Trophäe für das Siegerland" (Trophy for the Victorious Country) project was implemented as part of the "2008 - Österreich am Ball" commission in coordination with the Kunsthalle Wien.

5.11 meter tall trophy for the winning country

A representative of the Austrian Government will present the trophy publicly for the first time on 5 June at 9pm; the trophy will then remain on public display at the Karlsplatz/Kunsthalle Wien public space until it is awarded to the victorious country. Among the luminaries expected at the unveiling are: artist Sylvie Fleury, Gerald Matt (Kunsthalle Wien), Beppo Mauhart and Heinz Palme ("2008 - Österreich am Ball") and a representative of Swarovski. The trophy is a construction of stainless steel and Swarovski crystal glass panels which employ fibre-optic illumination to create a dazzling work of art.

Award ceremony in the victorious country

Several days after the final the trophy will be transported to the victorious country and handed over in a festive ceremony to the home country of the champion side from the 2008 European Football Championships. It will then act as a lasting memory of that happy event.

About artist Sylvie Fleury
