FRANKFURT, Germany, January 15 /PRNewswire/ --

- More Passengers in Lima and Antalya - Frankfurt Slips 1.3 Percent

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) served nearly 53.5 million passengers for the

entire year of 2008, down 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. Cargo

throughput (airfreight plus airmail) dropped by 2.7 percent to 2.1 million

metric tons and aircraft movements declined by 1.4 percent to almost 486,000

takeoffs and landings. Only accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) rose

by 0.5 percent to 28.4 million metric tons.

Group-wide traffic grew in 2008 to 78.2 million passengers, mainly due to

Peru's Lima Airport (LIM) achieving 10.4 percent growth (to 8.3 million

passengers) and Turkey's Antalya Airport (AYT) reporting an 8.5 percent jump

(to about 9 million passengers) - here Fraport is meanwhile also managing the

domestic terminal.

During the reporting month of December 2008, FRA was particularly

affected by the weakening global economy. With almost 3.8 million passengers,

FRA welcomed 5.3 percent fewer passengers year-on-year. Airfreight dropped by

25 percent to about 142,500 metric tons and aircraft movements declined by

5.2 percent to 36,255 takeoffs and landings. MTOWs also slipped by 4.8

percent to about 2.1 million metric tons.

All of the other majority-owned airports of the Fraport Group recorded

positive traffic development in December 2008: Lima had about 700,000

passengers (up 8.8 percent), Antalya almost 332,500 passengers (up 6 percent)

and Frankfurt-Hahn nearly 265,400 (up 2.2 percent). In Bulgaria, Varna

Airport (VAR) registered 21,577 passengers (up 3.6 percent) and Burgas

Airport (BOJ) served 2,317 passengers (up 25 percent) year-on-year.
