enkelvoudige gas systemen (b.v.

Chemical absorption with an alkaline solvent is commonly used in the
gas treating industry to remove acid gases from several industrial gas
streams. Fundamental knowledge of mass transfer, reaction kinetics and
thermodynamics of the gas-liquid system is required to design a gas
treating plant.
An electrolyte equation of state (E-EOS) is a new model to describe
the thermodynamics of acid gas-alkanolamine systems. In this thesis
the E-EOS approach is developed to predict the acid gas solubility of
CO2 and H S in an aqueous N-Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) solvent.
The acid gas solubility is studied at low (atmospheric) pressure, but
also at high (methane partial) pressure, due to high pressures
encountered in a natural gas plant. The results of the E-EOS model
have been compared with (low pressure) solubility data from open
literature and with new (high pressure) solubility data as presented
in this thesis.
In general it may be concluded that the E-EOS model can predict well
the CO2 and H S solubility in aqueous MDEA. Also the influence of
(high partial pressure) methane on the acid gas solubility can be
calculated. It has been proven that the model can be extended from the
pure component and binary non-reactive systems, to reactive single gas
( CO2 or H S) systems and systems were these gases are present
simultaneously. It is expected that the quality of the model can be
improved, when more physical and chemical equilibrium data are
available.
