CUBE:05 THE PRIDE & JOY OF HOUSE ANTHEMS

Ieder jaar weer bezoeken duizenden mensen de Gaypride in Amsterdam. Al deze mensen komen overal ter wereld vandaan en vieren de hele weekend naar meer Tolerantie, Vreugde, Liefde, Sexualiteit en Vrijheid. CUBE vertegenwoordigt alle groepen in onze Amsterdamse nachtleven en omdat de bovengenoemde kenmerken ook voor CUBE belangrijk zijn voelt FunkyPuppies zich aangesproken om dit spektakel niet zo maar voorbij te laten gaan. CUBE zal voor dit samenkomen plaats vinden op Vrijdag 31 juli 2009 op de dag van de Gaypride opening. CUBE is een plek waar nieuwe vriendschappen worden gemaakt en muziek samen gevierd wordt. De avond trekt muziekliefhebbers ongeacht leeftijd, ras, geslacht, geaardheid en sociale interesses. De avond waar de sfeer relaxed is en de beleving intens. Waar muzikale beleving hoger staat dan de waarde van de kleding. Waar alles mag en niets moet! Een avond vol artistieke expressies en uitdagingen.
Om de Gaypride op een eigen wijze te vieren hebben wij een aantal grote artiesten gevraagd om terug te gaan in de tijd en hun allerbeste house en/of acid platen uit de kast te halen. Het thema is dan ook "The Pride and Joy of House Anthems". Alle housekrakers allertijde zullen op deze avond voorbij komen. Hier een paar titels die jij zeker op CUBE05 kan verwachten: "Civilles & Cole- Deeper Love ", "Robin S.- Show Me Love", "Ultra Nate - Free", "George Morel- Let`s Groove", "Nightcrawlers - Push The Feeling On"," Farley Jackmaster Funk- Love Can't Turn Around", "Ralphi Rosario- You Used To Hold Me", "Marshall Jefferson- House Music Anthem", "The Bomb - The Bucketheads", "Technotronic- Pump up the Jam", "Crystal Waters- Gypsy Woman" en natuurlijk "Frankie Knuckles - Baby wants to ride".
CUBE: Benjamin Brown
Benjamin Brown is zijn carrière begonnen in de legendarische gayminded club "Havana Upstairs" Deze kleine club op de Regulierdwarsstraat had internationale bekendheid en was de ultieme hangout voor hip Amsterdam in de jaren 1995 t/m 1999. Diva`s als Mayday, Nicky Nicole en Sonny hebben hier hun allereerste optredens gehad. Dj Johnson, Natarcia, Cassie 6 hebben hier US garage en soulful house op de Amsterdamse kaart gezet. Benjamin zal voor deze editie veel van de Havana hits draaien die o.a. terug te vinden zijn op de oude cd compilaties van Havana Upstairs. Daarnaast zal hij ook zijn platenkoffer uit de RoXY tijd uit de zolder halen voor meer hits van de begintijd van house in Nederland. Benjamin Brown's motivatie is dan ook "Fuck the skills, respect the Music" ;)
CUBE: Brian S
FunkyPuppies heeft niemand minder dan de RUSH meester Brian S uitgenodigd. Deze jongeman is in 1995 begonnen met het opwarmen voor Marcello en Jean in de Amsterdamse club It. Vervolgens was hij resident van topfeesten zoals: Chemistry, MTC en RUSH. Met zijn funky grooves en good vibe mentaliteit rockt hij al jaren vele zalen in Nederland. Brian S zal op CUBE al zijn RUSH en IT krakers door de speakers laten knallen. Dat Brian S een multi talent is, kan je bekijken op dit amateur filmpje opgenomen op de vorige CUBE:
CUBE: Victor Coral
Om deze spektakel compleet te maken hebben wij de andere helft van de RUSH avonden ook uitgenodigd. Victor Coral en Brian S. waren vanaf 2001 het gouden duo dat zorgde voor de muzikale succes van RUSH. Door de combinatie van mainstream en underground club-sound hebben zij ervoor gezorgd dat RUSH jarenlang de populairste clubavond van Amsterdam is geweest en dat dj`s ineens in stelletjes gingen optreden. Victor Coral zal op CUBE jou weer laten genieten van de clubsound waar elk twintiger in Amsterdam mee opgegroeid is.
CUBE: Mike Scot
Deze kleine man kan zich nog herinneren dat ie met knikkende knieën in de rij stond voor de Chemistry deuren. Hopende dat hij er dit keer weer in mocht. Als jonge clubfreak heeft hij in de jaren 90 elk waardig house event meegemaakt. Deze muziekliefhebber was vaak de "irritante jochie naast de dj booth", die de dj`s lastig viel met 1 vraag: "Welke plaat is dat?". Na elke goede avond stond deze man weer vroeg in de platenzaken om de toppers van de vorige avond te bemachtigen. Hierdoor heeft Mike Scot een zeer grote platen collectie opgebouwd met grote housetitels van zijn uitgaanstijd van toen. Nu is de tijd aangebroken om aan de andere kant van de djbooth te staan en zijn collectie te delen met het CUBE publiek.

Since the early 70's, there have always been parties in the city where people got together and danced in a safe and congenial atmosphere. Where friends were made and where our love for Music could be celebrated. Where you felt special for being part of it, yet at home enough to truly relax and let go on the dance floor, together. Some of those parties became legends, others by now long forgotten... But the need is still here today for the same basic setting.
CUBE philosophy.
We would like to feel that CUBE is like a house party that got too big for someone's living room, so we had to find a more appropriate venue for it. It should be a place where everyone feels welcome, regardless of age, sex, colour or social attributes. A way for people from different walks of life to find common ground and establish friendships. A place where we can find inspiration, solace and a renewed expression of the unique and joyous nature of The Party. An opportunity to let one's guard down and truly share and celebrate the most vibrant energy that Music and dancing give us. A breeding ground for new ideas and concepts as well as a proud link to our musical heritage. Hopefully, an environment which will provide all of us with a much needed spiritual and peaceful experience, whether through Music or other forms of artistic expression.
A Black Electronic Dance Music policy.
Any party, over the course of time, develops its own identity. One of the things that make this one different is that we usually feature a team of DJ's informally playing music together. Since we believe that dancing is a universal language, we strive to play a wide variety of different black sounds and styles, new or old, without bias towards or against any specific format. The accent is on deep, soulful grooves with an uplifting message. What's expected of those who attend the party.
As in any social gathering, any members and their guests should behave in a manner which is respectful of others (including our staff), and as well of themselves. CUBE is a gathering of like-minded individuals, none of whom are more important than others. Therefore, we must treat others with courtesy and civility at all times. Please keep negative vibes at home, or at least at the coat-check when you come in. We all have bad days, but shouldn't feel obliged to share them with everyone else. We hope that coming to the party will help you be in a positive frame of mind! Suggestions to our staff will be listened to as long as they make sense.
