Kunstexpositie van New Yorkse Easton Davy nu in het WMDC

De New Yorkse Easton Davy is in zijn kunst sterk beïnvloed door de afro Amerikaanse muziekcultuur. Een inspiratie die tot uitdrukking komt in de symboliek, onderwerpkeuze en iconisering van muzikale afro Amerikaanse muziekgrootheden in zijn werk. Ook gebruikt hij in zijn abstracte expressionistische stijl de felle kleuren van zijn Cubaanse/Jamaicaanse roots en is het New Yorkse straatleven waar hij opgroeide terug te vinden.
Davy staat ook bekend om zijn live painting van artiesten. In 2004 stond hij op het North Sea Jazz Festival met het Greg Osby Quartet en in de jaren daarna verzorgde hij live painting acts tijdens het NuMoonFest en de Rotterdamse Museum Nacht. Daarnaast maakte hij voor Blue Note een CD-hoes voor Greg Osby, naast een twintigtal covers voor andere labels.
Easton Davy zelf over zijn werk:
"Usually, when I approach the canvas I don't know what's going to happen. Feelings pour out in unpredictable ways and I just want to capture them before they get away. At that point the paintbrush may not be working fast enough, and I just start using my fingers or anything I can get my hands on. This is the point where I just have to express myself by any means and with anything close at hand. It's as though the canvas has all these visions waiting for me to release, and I'm the messenger."
De expositie van Easton Davy in het WMDC is een verkooptentoonstelling en werd ingericht door de Stichting Music Inspired Art, vertegenwoordiger van Davy in Europa. De expositie is vanaf nu te zien in het WMDC en is gratis toegankelijk voor het publiek.
