The Permanent Mission of the Netherlands, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Senegal (tbc), is planning to screen the movie Tall as the Baobab Tree on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, 10 December. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on the role of poverty in the issue of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM).

The panel discussion provides a good opportunity to discuss drivers of child, early and forced marriage, with a particular focus on poverty. To this end, the Permanent Missions of Sierra Leone and India are invited to zoom in on the main drivers in their national context.
Questions that could come up during the discussion: What are the main problems surrounding CEFM in India and Sierra Leone? Is poverty a catalyst? To what extent do other factors, such as culture, lack of education and gender inequalities play a role? Will economic growth result in the disappearance of CEFM? How can the respective governments most effectively combat CEFM?
