Mensenrechtendag: Tokio
Ook in Japan wordt niet voorbijgegaan aan de Internationale Dag van de Mensenrechten. Dit jaar kiest de ambassade voor het thema LHBT-rechten. Er zijn een aantal ngo’s actief in Tokio die zich inzetten voor betere erkenning van en gelijke rechten voor homo’s, lesbiennes, biseksuelen en transgenders. Deze organisaties opereren echter nog altijd vrij low-key. De Ambassade biedt ze graag een steun in de rug. Op 10 december zal op de Ambassade de documentaire Strijders voor de Liefde van Marieke Slinkert en Sipke Jan Bousema worden vertoond aan een groep NGO-vertegenwoordigers. Deze NGO’s zijn allen betrokken bij de organisatie van de Tokyo Rainbow Week. Na afloop van de film zullen ze met elkaar in discussie gaan over de activiteiten van het afgelopen jaar en bespreken hoe de samenwerking kan worden verbeterd in 2014. De activiteit wordt afgesloten met een netwerkreceptie.
International Human Rights’ Day in Japan will not pass unnoticed. This year the Embassy has chosen LGBT-rights as the theme for the activity. There are a number of NGO’s in Tokyo that work hard to promote the equal rights and recognition of homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender persons in Japan. These organizations however still operate quite low-key. The Embassy is pleased to support their efforts, by organizing a film screening of the documentary Warriors for Love by Marieke Slinkert and Sipke Jan Bousema to a group of NGO representatives. These NGO’s are all involved in organizing the Tokyo Rainbow Week. After the film, there will be presentations on the achievements of the past year and a discussion on how to cooperate even better in 2014. This will be followed by a networking reception.
