FORNIX REALISEERT WINSTSTIJGING VAN 50% IN 2003
De aan Euronext Amsterdam genoteerde biopharmaceutische onderneming Fornix BioSciences N.V., gevestigd in Lelystad, heeft over het boekjaar 2003 wederom een zeer hoge winststijging gerealiseerd. De voorlopige nettowinst over het boekjaar 2003 komt uit op ¤ 5,1 miljoen, een stijging van circa 50% ten opzichte van de ¤ 3,4 miljoen in 2002. Daarmee heeft de onderneming de winsttoename over het eerste halfjaar in de tweede helft uitstekend weten vast te houden. Dit resultaat overstijgt zelfs de op 1 december 2003 gepubliceerde bovenwaartse winstbijstelling van minstens 25% naar minstens 40%. De omzet gaf eveneens een gezonde groei te zien van ¤ 56,6 miljoen in 2002 naar circa ¤ 67 miljoen in 2003, een stijging van bijna 20%. Dat de nettowinst nu nóg hoger uitkomt dan voorzien is te danken aan de laatste twee maanden van 2003, waarin de resultaten van de Allergiedivisie en de Handelsdivisie ver boven verwachting waren.
Het zijn ook deze divisies die voor een belangrijk deel verantwoordelijk zijn voor deze winstsprong van Fornix. Deze forse stijging van de winst werd behaald ondanks de kosten die gemoeid waren met de opstart en integratie van de in 2003 geacquireerde activiteiten. Ook de lagere investeringen in research en development hebben positief bijgedragen aan dit resultaat als gevolg van een zeer stringent kostenbeheersingbeleid met betrekking tot deze activiteiten.
Vooruitzichten voor 2004
Voor 2004 verwacht de directie een verdere toename van de nettowinst met meer dan 15% door een, naar verwachting, voortduren van de groei bij de Allergiedivisie en Handelsdivisie en een (beperkte) bijdrage van de nieuw geacquireerde activiteiten.

FORNIX RECORDS 50% INCREASE IN PROFIT IN 2003
The biopharmaceutical company Fornix BioSciences B.V. listed on the Euronext Amsterdam Stock Exchange and established in Lelystad, once again recorded an exceptional increase in profits in 2003. The provisional net profit for the 2003 financial year amounts to ¤ 5.1 million, an increase of approximately 50% in comparison to ¤ 3.4 million in 2002. In addition, it proved possible for the increase in profit in the first half of the year to be sustained in the second half. The result even exceeds the profit forecast upgrade as published on 1 December 2003 from at least 25% to 40%. Turnover similarly grew vigorously from ¤ 56.6 million in 2002 to approximately ¤ 67 million in 2003, an increase of nearly 20%. The fact that the net profit is now even higher than had been anticipated is attributable to the final two months of 2003, in which the results of the Allergy Division and the Trade Division far exceeded expectations.
It is also these two divisions that have largely been responsible for the jump in profits at Fornix. The sharp increase was achieved despite the costs associated with the start-up and integration of the activities acquired in 2003. The stringent cost control policy in relation to research and development and consequent reduction in the level of investment in those activities was also a contributory factor in the higher result.
Prospects for 2004
With regard to 2004, the management expects a further increase in net profit of over 15% as a result of the likely continuation of growth in the Allergy Division and Trade Division and a (limited) contribution by the newly acquired activities.
