Dutch broadband market grows 77 percent year-on-year

The number of Dutch broadband connections (cable and ADSL) increased from 2,226,000 on 31 March 2004 to 2,525,000 million broadband subscribers on 30 June 2004. Compared to 30 June 2003, the market grew with 1,101,000 new broadband users, an increase of 77 percent. Wanadoo is the first broadband ISP to pass the 400,000 customer mark, ending the quarter with 401,500 broadband customers of which 200,000 use ADSL and the rest cable. Wanadoo's market share on the broadband market increased to 15.9 percent. The second largest cable ISP @home reaches 25 percent cable internet penetration with an astonishing growth of 60,000 new customers or 20 percent to 360,000 alsmost catching cable rival chello. The UPC ISP continued its new found growth from Q1 increasing to 365,800 customers. Planet Internet is still the largest ADSL provider with 341,000 customers, but looses touch with top three broadband providers. Of the ADSL ISPs, Het Net grew the fastest by 30.2 percent to 138,000 customers, catching up with Tiscali (151,000 customers), XS4ALL (147,000 customers), and Zon (144,000 customers).The KPN ISPs, including Direct ADSL, increased their broadband market share to 26.6 percent in Q2 and saw their ADSL market share grow for the first time since three quarters.
