Development builds on success of centre rejuvenation project
Capital cost around 180 million
AM Wonen confirms alliance with Rochdale and AWV housing
associations to redevelop GAK site in Amsterdam
Property developer AM Wonen and housing associations Rochdale and Algemene
Woningbouw Vereniging (AWV) have signed a contract for the redevelopment of the
site formerly occupied by social security agency GAK in the Bos en Lommer district of
Amsterdam, where they plan to create a new living environment comprising a mix of
housing, businesses and cultural facilities. The capital cost is estimated at around 180
million.
Redevelopment of the former GAK site is the next step in the ongoing process of physical,
social and economic improvement of the district. Bounded by Bos en Lommerplantsoen,
Erasmusgracht and the A10 ring road, the site has excellent links to the ring road and
central Amsterdam. Its location in the centre of the district and its proximity to the
buildings bridging the A10 and the new shopping centre at Bos en Lommerplein (both
developed by AM Vastgoed) make it an attractive place in which to live and work.
Positive spirit
AM Wonen, Rochdale and AWV will spend the coming period in discussions with the
district council on what form the development should take. The three parties are
determined to create a vital environment where people live and work and which
provides cultural and other leisure facilities. Consultation is currently in progress with the
district council, the Cuypergenootschap (an interest grouping) and the municipality's
listed buildings department on how the former GAK building, which has been proposed
for listing, is to be accommodated within the plans.
Profile of AM
AM (formerly Amstelland MDC) is active across Europe in urban centre, shopping centre,
housing and office development that is sensitive to the wider local context. With
operating income of 1.1 billion and net profit of 75 million in 2003, the listed company

in Europe. AM currently has projects under construction or in preparation in the
Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Czech
Republic, Hungary, Poland and Turkey. All these projects are tailored to consumers'
lifestyles and respect and reinforce the local culture.
AM Wonen operates from regional offices in the Netherlands, developing large-scale
projects in expansion zones, on brownfield sites and in urban restructuring zones.
Profile of Rochdale

Ontwikkeling sluit aan op succesvolle aanpak centrumgebied;
Investeringsvolume circa 180 miljoen
