Chris Noonan will direct from a screenplay by Richard Maltby, Jr.
Los Angeles, 19 october 2005 - Academy Award(r) winner Renée Zellweger (Chicago)
will star in the biopic Miss Potter for David Kirschner Productions and Phoenix Pictures.
Academy Award(r) nominee Chris Noonan (Babe) is set to direct and principal photography is
scheduled to begin March 6, 2006 on location in the UK. Grosvenor Park will finance the
project with Summit Entertainment, handling International sales and distribution.
Written by Tony Award(r) winning Richard Maltby, Jr., the film explores the life of the
best-selling childrens author Beatrix Potter, played by Zellweger, and her struggle for
independence in chauvinistic Victorian England. A true story of love and loss, Miss
Potter charts the transformation of an unhappy spinster into the successful author of
some of the most popular childrens stories ever published. Combining live-action and
animation to bring her much loved characters to life, Miss Potter reveals the woman
behind such timeless classics as The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
The film will be produced by Phoenixs Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites and
Kirschner Productions David Kirschner and Corey Sienega and marks their first
partnership. Zellweger will serve as executive producer.
In addition to Miss Potter, David Kirschner Productions recently wrapped Martian Child,
directed by Menno Meyjes, starring John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt
and are in production with Curious George also being produced by Ron Howard. Phoenix
Pictures also produced All The Kings Men, directed by Steve Zaillian and starring Sean
Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Clarkson and
Anthony Hopkins, which will be released December 16th and are in production with Zodiac,
directed by David Fincher starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Edwards
and Brian Cox; and Pathfinder directed by Marcus Nispel starring Karl Urban.
Project was brought into Phoenix by Vice-President of Production David Thwaites who will
oversee for the company. Zellweger is repped by John Carrabino and CAA, CAA also
represents Noonan. Maltby, Jr. is repped by Endeavor.
