Korte film van Nederlandse filmmaker wint 1ste prijs in Hollywood

De korte film Beyond The Pretty Door heeft afgelopen week op het Hollywood Black Film
Festival de eerste prijs gewonnen voor beste studenten film 2007.
Het festival dat werd gehouden in Beverly Hills beleefde de afgelopen dagen zijn achtste
editie.
De korte film werd geregisseerd door de jonge Nederlandse filmmaker Bobby Boermans als
onderdeel van zijn opleiding aan het American Film Instituut. Eerder in het jaar won deze
eind-examen film al de prijs voor beste korte film op het Pan African Film Festival 2007
in Los Angeles.
EXTRA INFORMATIE:
De korte film Beyond The Pretty Door is gebaseerd op de persoonlijke ervaringen van
scenario schrijfster Renee McLellan. Het verhaal verteld over een jong meisje 'Reese
Turner' dat de gruwelijke mishandelingen van haar moeder probeert te overwinnen. Samen
met haar jongere broertje 'Joey' en zusje 'Angel' ervaart zij, nacht na nacht, hoe het is
om zonder beschermende vader op te groeien. Gaandeweg leert Reese haar jongere broertje en
zusje te beschermen en de plaats van haar vader in te nemen.
De hoofdrol word vertolkt door de actrice Jontille Gerard. Tevens is er een kleine rol weg
gelegd voor ex-boyz 2 men lid Michael McCary. De film werd gecast met behulp van de
bekende Amerikaanse casting director Twinkie Byrd, die in Amerika onder andere videoclips
cast voor Christina Aquilera, Nelly Furtado, 50 Cent & Madonna alsmede de Sony
speelfilm Stomp The Yard. Deze korte film diende als eind-examen project voor de
prestigieuze opleiding aan het American Film Institute gevestigd te Hollywood.
Bobby Boermans regisseert in Nederland o.a videoclips via het productiebedrijf 100% Halal.
Eerder al maakte hij videoclips voor o.a Partysquad, Negativ, Yes-r, THC, K-liber.
Tevens regisseerde hij de videoclips 'Moppie' & 'Ik wacht al zo lang' voor Lange Frans
& Baas B featuring Direct, waarvoor zij in 2006 een TMF Award nominatie voor beste
nationale video in de wacht sleepte.
