Lunchlezing: Demolition is no option

Of all the houses in the Netherlands, a maximum of 1% is newly built
every year. Of those new houses, only a quarter replaces existing
buildings. This means that houses have to last longer than expected.
At the current rates of demolition and replacement, they need to last
about 400 years. This means that we need to pay more attention to the
existing housing supply than we currently do.
