Conferentie over praktische benaderingen voor effectieve Europese grensoverschrijdende samenwerking
De gemeente Maastricht, de provincie Limburg en de VNG, in samenwerking met de ministeries van Binnenlandse en Buitenlandse Zaken en de Raad van Europa, organiseren een conferentie over praktische benaderingen voor effectieve Europese grensoverschrijdende samenwerking in Europa. De conferentie vindt plaats op 6 en 7 juli 2009 in Maastricht. Staatssecretaris voor Europese Zaken Frans Timmermans is key note speaker tijdens de opening van de conferentie en zal ook de nieuw aangestelde "grensmakelaar" introduceren - voormalig CvdK Wim van Gelder.
Doel van de conferentie
In de eerste plaats wordt de conferentie aangegrepen om relevante factoren te identificeren die een bevordelijke of juist tegenwerkende kracht vormen voor grensoverschrijdende samenwerking binnen Europa. De resultaten van de conferentie worden in de vorm van aanbevelingen voorgelegd aan de conferentie van Ministers van Binnenlandse Zaken van de Raad van Europa die in november as. in Utrecht plaatsvindt. De conclusies van de conferentie zullen ook als input gebruikt worden voor het werk van het Congres van Lokale en Regionale Overheden van de Raad van Europa, met name het werk van de werkgroep voor interregionale samenwerking. Daarnaast zal de conferentie een forum bieden voor discussie over de toekomst van grensoverschrijdende samenwerking Europa breed en voor uitwisseling van kennis en informatie. Conference on Practical Approaches Towards Effective European Transfrontier Co-operation
The City of Maastricht, the Province of Limburg and the Association of Netherlands Municipalities in co-operation with the Netherlands Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs and the Council of Europe, are organizing a conference on practical approaches towards effective European transfrontier co-operation. The conference will take place on the 6th and 7th of July 2009 in the city of Maastricht.
Goal of the Conference
The goal of the conference is twofold. Firstly, it aims to ascertain the factors that enhance or hinder transfrontier co-operation throughout Europe. The results of the conference will provide elements for the discussion on transfrontier co-operation during the Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Local and Regional Government in Utrecht in November. The conclusions of the conference will not only inform the Utrecht Ministerial Conference's discussions on this issue but also the future work of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, in particular the work of its Working Group on Inter-regional Co-operation in the field of transfrontier co-operation. Secondly, the conference will provide a forum for discussion for local and regional authorities and other actors in the field in which to exchange information and expertise, to identify best practices and to discuss practical tools for furthering transfrontier co-operation.
